Hub City Warriors
The Volunteer Center has the opportunity to meet volunteers of all ages through our From the Heart program. This program allows families, students, organizations, and other members of the community to come together and give back, and includes 5 national days of service. Last fall, we had the privilege of meeting and building a relationship with the Hub City Warriors.
The Hub City Warriors is a basketball team made up of some incredible young boys and girls (each age group makes up a different team, but they all collectively go by the Hub City Warriors). The team was connected to the Volunteer Center through Sophie, a member of the team and regular volunteer at our events.
Their coach, Mario, not only trains the Hub City Warriors to be great basketball players, he also takes the time to teach them the importance of serving and supporting the community.
In October, the Hub City Warriors, including friends and family, showed up ready to volunteer for Make A Difference Day. We were pleasantly surprised by the number of volunteers that showed up! A few weeks later, the team and their families participated in the Volunteer Center’s Family Volunteer Day. At each of these events, they have been the first volunteers to arrive and the last to leave, even staying to help clean up after the projects were over.
The team, coach, and their families came together with one goal in mind: To serve our community. The Warriors have volunteered countless hours and have committed to continue to serve on MLK Day of service this month. When asked why she gives back to the community, one of the young volunteers wrote, “because it makes my heart happy.”
We are so thrilled to not only get to know these young boys and girls, but to keep their hearts happy through service.
